University of Pecs (Faculty of Business and Economics)

When the faculty was established 30 years ago, the main goal was to create a regional center for training economists in Pécs together with all the necessary personnel and institutional conditions. The founders’ efforts were crowned with success, for the Faculty has become a renowned center of training economist within its three decades of life, a fairly short period of time in the life of a university.

From the very beginning the Faculty has focused on the training of micro-economists and business managers. Since the 80s the regional character of the Faculty has gradually diminished, and today it is the second most important training center in economics and business administration in the country.

The Faculty of Business and Economics is not merely a teaching institution but a productive community of students, teachers, research scientists, business experts, foreign professors and graduates of the Faculty taking a job or conducting business in the region; in other words, a regional knowledge center for people who apply the knowledge offered by economic and business sciences.

The Faculty has shown considerable progress in recent years. 120 faculty members and some 3,000 students work together day after day, and the number of students admitted every year amounts to 160. A similar number of students participate in second degree M.Sc. training programmes, 160 students take courses in English in order to earn a joint-degree with Middlesex University London UK, and every year some 60 to 80 students participate in our study abroad programmes.

As of 2003 a newly renovated main building with a new library and an enlarged computer network serves the purpose of high-standard teaching.
